Ack! Moving!

It's been fun. Driving back and forth from there to here (4 hours). Last night I was towing the boat (maxing out the Xterra's towing capacity) in the rain in the dark through narrow construction zone laden mountain roads. Somebody didn't make it. Someone had gone through a guard rail and down a steep bank. I didn't see the carnage, just what was remaining of the guard rails and the cops and cones blocking it.

Unpacking, setting up all the various parts of the house. We've done well, lots done, but so much more to do. Getting everything the way we like it in our various areas (like my basementertainment system). I have the desk with computer behind the couch in front of the big TV. Nothing other than the HTPC has been set up, so it can continue recording. Haven't hooked up the sound or anything. But cable, internet, wireless are all working, which has been crucial to our operations.

We're also getting to know the area, and the restaurants. The area is nice and definitely a college town. The weather finally cooled followed by tons of rain. The house has no AC, so the near 90 temps were working us over really well. But it's all in the 60s now.

The landlord is cool about getting things taken care of and fixed and such, which is quite nice, considering the last rental we had. We're installing ceiling fans where there weren't any and a new faucet. The landlord is covering all that, which is awesome.

The dog is running away and returning or being returned. Abigail is slacking in just about everything so we've been fighting to get her somewhat functional. All the changes have kept her from any sort of normal schedule. Balen is getting into, climbing on, taking apart, playing on, and throwing just about everything. A wonderful source of chaos in direct opposition to our attempts at imposing order on our lives. Michel is sometimes about to explode with the mountain of work but her lists are compensating. I'm trying to keep everything working towards the same goal while trying to ignore the fact that none of my gaming systems are hooked up (that's my stress). One big thing that keeps coming up is that Abigail is seeing what it's like when there's lots to do and no play time for either adult. We keep stressing that fact to her to deemphasize the importance and necessity of play. She actually stated that she requires some sort of play time. She clearly views it as a right to her existence.

So, it's fun, it's busy, it's an adventure.

Oh, and we rented our house to another military couple. The guy's a pilot and the gal just got out to be home with the children... Sounds mighty familiar, eh? We put the house up for rent or sale and their offer came in 4 days later and we had the place under contract. Obviously the plan that God had all along came to fruition. It's nice to see it work out so well. It was kind of tough for a while watching people come and go with no offers to buy as our deadline marched incessantly forward. Remembering to relax and stay calm and faithful was a bit difficult at times. It was easier once I remembered how well He solved the issues around Michel's deployment. We're not quite making our mortgage, but we're making more than we would if it wasn't selling, and we're building equity. Plus, we're keeping the house, which we love! Michel really loves it.

Okay, the delivery chinese got here, so see ya next time.

We're here!

Well, another eventful move. Wowsers we have a lot of crap. They decided yesterday afternoon that they were going to deliver today instead of Saturday, so we had to accelerate our timetable. We left at 6am this morning, after waking up at 3:30am and doing all the last minute packing of stuff and kids.

Movers are always fun and interesting people.

Gotta go. Gotta return the Uhaul trailer, get some food, a litter box, and maybe a window AC unit or two...

We're moving...

There's a bit of sadness in the moving. We don't want to leave the house. Michel specially so. We had an offer last week but it started $25k low, and they wanted all our appliances. They were attempting a low ball. We have them back nearly to our list with some other modifications, but they have not responded to our counter offer. That was the first offer we've had, but we have to be careful not to jump for it too much. We have another open house tomorrow.

Monday the packers show, Wednesday the movers show, and we'll be in the new place that night with another load of stuff. Michel has to be back by the 14th to outprocess from the base here, and we'll bring the boat back with us then.

You'll get the new address in the email I notify you all with. We are not going to have a landline as of now, as the cost is unnecessary. We'll stick with our cell phones as primaries, especially since phone service is so stupidly expensive. We're not yet entirely comfortable with this, so it's not set in stone yet. We'll try it and see.

Penn State, here we come!
